We are pleased to congratulate our Professors Mert Guney and Vassilis Inglezakis with a new project, which was approved for funding 2018-2020!
The project title is “Mercury contamination in Pavlodar and Borovoe, Kazakhstan: Evaluation of atmospheric emissions and cycle systems, site assessment, and human health risk characterization”.
We wish Investigators and all researchers further success and excellent results!
“Assessment of total mercury content in water of the Balkyldak Lake-reservoir, Pavlodar, Kazakhstan”
Authors: Alina V Korobeinyk, Vadim R Yapiev , Seitkhan Azat , Vassilis J Inglezakis
This study aimed at determining the levels of total mercury in water samples collected in the vicinity of the Lake-reservoir Balkyldak in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan. Legacy of the chloralkali process in Pavlodar which involved the mercury cell method while producing a chlorine-free sodium hydroxide leads to serious environmental problems. Mercury emitted from industrial eluents in environment carries predominantly anthropogenic pollutants. In present investigation, samples were analyzed in respect to the geological location of collection.
Note: The 2018 8th International Conference on Environment Science and Engineering (ICESE 2018) will be held in Barcelona, Spain during 11-13 March, 2018. It brings together innovative academics and industrial experts in the field of Environment Science and Engineering to a common forum.

Professor Inglezakis provided a lecture on Refineries Wastewater Treatment to the undergraduate students of University of Brighton . This event was organized as a part of module “Case studies in Environmental pollution”. Professor Inglezakis gave a very informative talk and present his expert accounts of working in the field of environmental pollution.
Our research assistants were trained on the use of the new elemental analyzer for a wide range of sample types and industries, ICP-MS from the 7 to 9 of February . The training was conducted by Alexei Leykin, representative of the company Intertek, the official distributor for Russia and CIS countries. During the training, researchers were familiarized with the principle of operation of the ICP-MS , with the main characteristics and features of using for various solutions, as well as possible limitations in operation.
