Our  ESTg member, 3 rd year PhD candidate Alzhan Baimenov has attended 2 nd NANOMED workshop “ADSORBENTS FOR REMOVAL OF HEAVY METALS. CHARACTERISATION, PERSONAL CARE AND WATER TREATMENT” in the framework of HORIZON 2020 Program Nanoporous and Nanostructured Materials for Medical Applications (NanoMed) project
at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary. On the first day of the workshop, a round table was organized where the reports of the research performed by the project partners were evaluated and the work plan for the next year was discussed. On the second day, a mini-conference was held, where results of the conducted research were presented by both senior scientists and young researchers. Alzhan made an oral presentation entitled “Macroporous cryogel composites for removal of heavy metals from aqueous and biological media”.

Our  ESTg member, Aliya Kudarova was participating in a 1-month traineeship in the framework of Nanoporous and Nanostructured Materials for Medical Applications (NanoMed) project at the Universidad de Alicante, Spain.

Aliya continued the work on the characterization of modified and non-modified forms of zeolite by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Aliya performed the synthesis of modified form of zeolites from the raw material on site.

Aliya completed the measurements of iodide removal from water solutions under different conditions on UV-VIS spectrophotometer.
